What do you get a loved one for Valentine’s Day? Will red roses or a box of chocolates do? Valentine’s Day is much more about the effort you put in than the actual gift itself. Sure, women love flowers but ask any woman and they would probably take a romantic moment over a bunch of flowers any day. So what are some Valentine’s Day gift ideas to help you win the romance of your loved one for another year?

Creativity will be your single best asset during Valentine’s Day but before we start getting creative understand that a woman always wants flowers. Never put your money on anything she says because if she doesn’t receive flowers while everyone else at work are getting a delivery your night is not going to start off too well. A true Casanova can overcome this but why start at the 50 yard line when a small flower delivery can you get closer to the goal line before you even meet.

Now that you understand Valentine’s Day flowers are a must then it’s time to create the rest of the evening. Everybody’s lifestyle is different but let’s assume you are not a billionaire with a private jet or have access to a helicopter to whisk your girl away. Most people have budgets and some even have family obligations which prevent them from spending any more time than a date night however even a couple hours is still enough time to make a memory that will last forever.

Dinner Out

If you think having dinner at home is romantic it can be but it’s still pretty lazy on your part. You need to make her feel like a princess so make a reservation somewhere she always wanted to go or re-create a special moment of the past by visiting a restaurant or bar of yesteryear – maybe where you first met or the place you first kissed. Romance is all about the effort and if your woman needs a fancy dinner at the most expensive restaurant to be happy then you are probably with the wrong one.

Always Give More than Flowers

This is where most men fail. They assume the flowers are the gift. No, the flowers are expected – the true gift will always be what’s unexpected. A small bracelet, a pair of earrings, tickets for a show, a photo book… anything else, but you need to get more than flowers if you want to be on your A game. This may set a precedent for the future but hey, it’s only one day of the year and you are damn lucky to have found a woman who loves you the other 364 days of the year so show it!

The Bait and Switch Present

Our personal favorite when a small gift is given at the beginning the evening just to test her appreciation of your efforts (this has to be done with a dinner or other event planned or you will likely be sleeping alone). Give her a not so great (but still cute) gift at the start of evening, enjoy the night, make her laugh and then when the time is right pull out the real gift. It will be much more special and certainly more surprising. Again, you need some skills to pull this off but if you can then it’s a skill you can use forever.

Valentine’s Day may be just another holiday but it’s the day of love and you owe it to your loved one to go that extra mile because if you don’t then somebody else might just come along and do it.
